Town of Palm Beach Lifeguards Receive High Marks
The unpredictable weather of Palm Beach Island can have a beautiful beach day turn dangerous in the blink of an eye. When faced with high waves and wild weather, we are fortunate to have Town of Palm Beach lifeguards to alert beach lovers and rescue anyone who could possibly be in peril. Luckily, the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue Team is highly trained to protect all who frequent our picturesque beaches.
Last month the United States Lifesaving Association Southeast Regional Championships were held in Flagler Beach, Florida. Twenty-one beach patrol and ocean rescue teams competed in rigorous competitions. Major cities, along with smaller municipalities had both male and females compete in various simulated situations.
The men from the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue Team placed 2nd in a relay consisting of running, swimming, paddling, and a combination of surfing and skiing. The women’s team placed third in their relay.
In the women’s duo surf-rescue race, the duo from Palm Beach placed first out of 11 teams. Several top placements in multiple events led to the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue to place 2nd overall out of the 21 teams in the competition.
Captain Mark Myhre believes this team is one of the best rescue teams assembled in recent history for the Town of Palm Beach. They are looking forward to competing in Daytona Beach later this week in the National Lifeguard Championships hosted by The Nautica U.S. Lifesaving Association.
Just like most services the Town of Palm Beach offers for residents and visitors, the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue team is superior regionally. When the ocean becomes violent along the shores of the Town of Palm Beach, the highly trained Palm Beach Ocean Rescue Team will keep everyone safe.
