Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course Ranked 3rd in Nation

GolfAdvisor.com has recently published a list of best short golf courses in the U.S. and South Florida’s Tow of Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course was ranked 3^rd on their list. Short courses are defined as 9-hole courses under 2,700 yards or 18-hole courses under 5,500 yards. Palm Beach Par 3 is 2,572 yards at its longest and offers three sets of tees.

This Town of Palm Beach course has had a few record-breaking years since its renovation three years ago, but it was opened way back in 1961. The Par 3 course was built by Michael Phipps and designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee, Wilson’s apprentice at the time. In 1973 the Town of Palm Beach purchased the course for $5 million. In 2009, it was redesigned by Raymond Wilson, the local golf great, and this redesign helped launch it into the best short golf courses in the country, bringing the quality up to par with the spectacular location, right between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway in the Town of Palm Beach.

Elevation changes and implementation of salt-water resistant paspalum grass were among the positive changes, as well as new great views of the water, both the coast and lakes. Even before its redesign, the Palm Beach course was popular among celebrities and golf players alike. The wind is always a factor that makes shots a bit harder, and there are plenty of bunkers.

The high rating came as no surprise to Golf Manager Tony Chateauvert, who stated back in 2012 that this course was the future of the game. According to him, being ranked 3^rd is an honor to everyone involved in making Palm Beach Par 3 what it is today.
