With the festivities of the holidays already a few weeks behind us, you may be noticing by now a lull in leisurely activities that you and your sweetheart, friends, or children can enjoy together. Between the hustle and bustle of everyday life on the island, it’s easy to forget that Palm Beach has a cornucopia of hidden gems that have made it the ideal location to have some relaxing fun with your friends and family for decades. This weekend, shake off the post-holiday monotonous blues and go on an adventurous outing through time, right in your own back yard!

Begin with an early morning trip to one of the bicycle shops found on the island and rent a bike for the day. That’s right folks, this outing is environmentally friendly. Even if you own your own bikes, consider renting a tandem bicycle; after all, this is about breaking the mold of a normal, run-of-the-mill excursion.

With your slick new ride in hand, take your time exploring the natural, as well as man-made wonders and sights that Palm Beach has to offer, by cruising down the historic Lake Trail. Built in 1894 by Henry Flagler, Lake Trail is just over five miles of a vast array of scenery including luxurious mansions and hotels, the Intracoastal Waterway, and captivating dense Florida vegetation along a tree lined path. Don’t forget your cameras, this trail is sure to be filled with photo ops. Some sights to look out for on the trail are the Flagler museum, the Ducks Nest (which is the oldest standing home in Palm Beach), and the immense Kapok tree.

When you’ve built up an appetite, take a short ride to the iconic Green’s Pharmacy, where the likes of Jimmy Buffet, Brooke Shields, and even the Kennedy’s have stopped in for a bite. Established in the 1930s, Green’s Pharmacy is as old school as it gets as the spot to sip on a milkshake while you chow down on classic all-American diner fare and reminisce of the good ol’ days.

Palm Beach is a beautiful place to discover with no shortage of things to do and sights to see. Go on, step out of your daily routine, slow down, and try something new. To paraphrase the great Mr. Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around… you could miss it”. Date like a Town of Palm Beach Local.
