President Trump’s Weekend in Palm Beach

President Trump spent his weekend in Palm Beach golfing, watching the Super Bowl, and sending off an occasional tweet, as first reported by the Palm Beach Daily News.

The president and the first lady arrived at Mar-a-Lago on Friday night. They briefly greeted the club’s members and their guests and then had dinner at a special reserved table in Mar-a-Lago’s main dining room.

On Saturday, Trump made his way to his Jupiter club, where the president golfed with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, tweeting a photo with two legends. In a following tweet, he said that Woods played great and shot a 64. He also mentioned that Nicklaus’ “putting is amazing,” and said that “Jack & Tiger really like each other.”

Trump also used Twitter to weigh in on the political scandal involving Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. Trump tweeted that Northam’s denial that he was one of the people in the yearbook photo—coming one day after his public apology for appearing in the picture—was “unforgivable.”

Sunday the president started his day with a round of golf with Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney at Trump’s West Palm Beach club. The main event of the day, however, would be the Trump’s Super Bowl party at Trump International.

Before the party, Trump was interviewed by CBS’ Face the Nation program. In the interview Trump expressed opposition to his son Barron playing football, saying that “it’s a dangerous sport.”

He also mentioned his belief that he did the NFL “a big favor” when he denounced national anthem protests by players in the league. “Roger Goodell called me and thanked me. And I appreciated that,” Trump said according to a transcript of the interview. “But they haven’t been kneeling and they have been respecting the flag and their ratings have been terrific ever since.”

The Trumps arrived at the Super Bowl Party Sunday evening to greet Florida Atlantic University’s marching band. The president and the first lady listened to the band play before entering the main ballroom where they and their guests watched the big game. “Thank you very much,” Trump told the band members. And then, gesturing to the press corps and earning chuckles from the band, “you heard of the media?”

For the most part, Trump kept a low profile during his weekend in Palm Beach. The president is now back in Washington undoubtedly preparing for tomorrow’s State of the Union address.
