Mayor Gail Coniglio Presents Scholarships to Town Employee Children
22 scholarships have been presented to the sons and daughters of town employees by Mayor Gail Coniglio recently.
One scholarship was co-sponsored by the Citizens’ Association of Palm Beach and Palm Beach Civic Association, and the other by the Palm Beach Country Club. During the Town Council meeting on Tuesday both types of scholarships were awarded.
One outstanding young lady earned both – the 18-year-old Sofia Rivero, daughter of Hugo Rivero, a water resource technician. Sofia’s father has worked for the town since 1989. Sofia will graduate from Atlantic Community High School this month, with a GPA of 3.7 and honor-point average of 4.5.
Her hard work paid off, and she earned herself $5,000 in awards. Rivero volunteers and tutors other students at the National Honor Society, and she is also a member of Model U.N. and captain of her varsity lacrosse team. She hopes to have a career in pharmacy, and will attend Florida State University in the fall to study biology and chemistry.
