Mayor Gail Coniglio Presents Scholarships to Town Employee Children

22 scholarships have been presented to the sons and daughters of town employees by Mayor Gail Coniglio recently.

One scholarship was co-sponsored by the Citizens’ Association of Palm Beach and Palm Beach Civic Association, and the other by the Palm Beach Country Club. During the Town Council meeting on Tuesday both types of scholarships were awarded.

One outstanding young lady earned both – the 18-year-old Sofia Rivero, daughter of Hugo Rivero, a water resource technician. Sofia’s father has worked for the town since 1989. Sofia will graduate from Atlantic Community High School this month, with a GPA of 3.7 and honor-point average of 4.5.

Her hard work paid off, and she earned herself $5,000 in awards. Rivero volunteers and tutors other students at the National Honor Society, and she is also a member of Model U.N. and captain of her varsity lacrosse team. She hopes to have a career in pharmacy, and will attend Florida State University in the fall to study biology and chemistry.

Curtashia Oliver was one of the 21 recipients of the $2,000 award from Palm Beach Country Club. Olivier is the daughter of public works department office manager Jennifer Bell, and the award will go toward her college fund for Valencia State College. Curtashia Olivier plans to earn a degree in business management there.

This 18-year-old often uses her free time to brainstorm ideas for businesses and appears to have quite the entrepreneurial mind. She desires to work in the beauty or fashion indstry. Curtashia is also an aspiring graphic designer hard at work on her first clothing line for young adults, and hopes to venture in the hair industry as well.
