Florida Academy of Family Physicians Forum to be Held at The Breakers

On Aug. 9 – 11, the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) is holding its Family Medicine Summer Forum 2019 at The Breakers. FAFP works to provide individuals with the opportunity to reach their target audience of family physicians, residents and medical students. The FAFP supports Florida’s family physicians and advocates for physicians and patients in family medicine.

Several workshops will be held over the course of the forum. The forum will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 9 with a ABFM KSA/CSA workshop covering heart failure. Individuals will engage in several seminars scheduled throughout the day. A wide variety of topics are covered, such as the use of opioids for pain management and an education on lupus. Each seminar has a clear list of learning objectives for individuals to follow. The last seminar of the day, Medicolegal Implications of Professional Collaboration, will end at 6:15 p.m.

On Aug. 10, seminars will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a journal article review. The forum will continue with subjects, such as cardiovascular disease in women, Alzheimer’s disease, and reproductive health care. A set of learning objectives will be covered for each of the day’s topics as well. A faculty development workshop on effectively managing residency crises will close the second day of the forum at 5:45 p.m.

On Aug. 11, individuals can request to engage in an extra workshop at 8:00 a.m. for an additional fee. This extra workshop will focus on diabetes. Topics such as group collaboration, improving patient and physician experience, and abdominal pain in children will be reviewed with a certain list of learning objectives to achieve. The last topic of the forum, abdominal pain in children, will end at 12:00 p.m.
